Here we are again! We've been open nearly a week and already we are busy bees! We've been helped by some lovely sunny winter days and it been so nice to see so many old friends again and have so many people come from far afield to sample our home made fare. Thank you!
We've made a few changes whilst we've been closed. A new table layout to make it easier for the larger parties we are now getting......and a lovely new carpet. So........definitely NO MUDDY BOOTS PLEASE! We have a scrapper, overshoes or we don't mind socks! Bringing mud into the tearoom brings in muck and germs; not nice for anyone. So now that the weather is changing, please be considerate. Our menu hasn't changed too much. We've had to add a penny or two here and there to reflect increased supplier costs, but the cake portions are still generous and we always have a range of specials to choose from. We only have to point out that there is a £1.60 minimum cover charge for anyone who just wants to sit and watch and not eat and drink anything! Sorry, but we are a small business. Well, goodbye for now. We will keep you updated as the year progresses and look forward to seeing you soon. There's always a bit of sadness when another winter closing approaches. Despite the festive season and the need for us all to rest up after another hectic year, we will miss all of our friends and visitors.
Its been another enjoyable year. That long, warm summer brought people out to Appledore and many ended up joining us for tea and cake. There have been several changes in Appledore. Alan has finally moved on from Forge Antiques and we will all miss his good humour and the enthusiasm he brought to the enterprise. Lots of new faces have moved into the village as people move on. Some older, formally un-cared for buildings are being seriously upgraded making the village even more attractive for residents and visitors alike. We all look forward to seeing you all in January 2015 and wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a safe, healthy and enjoyable New Year. .......why not pop in for a nice cup of tea and some home made cake.
Hasn't it been a great summer so far? Appledore has been lovely. The Vintage Car Rally was a great success and the Flower Festival is almost upon us. Nearby Rye has a Jazz and Blues Festival before the main Rye Festival with its programme of more classical music, readings and events. So why not join us this August and September............ We were very concerned that we seem to have upset a couple of intrepid Trip Advisers. We all try so hard to please! Sometimes we get very busy and when making everything freshly to order, we sometimes get a bit frazzled! We have also become quite a popular destination and people now often book tables in advance. However, we always keep tables available for passers by, but this is on a first come, first served basis and we don't impose time limits. We realise that we can't please everyone.....who can? But we are NEVER snooty or off-hand and only ever rude if someone is first rude to us! We love our business and have some lovely regular customers who have become friends over the years. When they come in we chat, but we never knowingly or deliberately ignore other customers. We are not Starbucks or MacDonalds (although one of the partners is).......we are a family business, trying to serve the best of everything in a pleasant and interesting tea room. We want people to enjoy their visit and come again regularly. Happily the vast majority of our customers agree with us. Thank you to all of you.
Welcome to our new website! Finally a site that we can alter, update, monitor and comment.
We are so pleased that so many people love our tea room and come back for more. We work hard to provide our customers with the best of everything from gorgeous food, home made from locally sourced ingredients, a delicious range of proper tea plus coffee and soft drinks all served in what we hope is an attractive and interesting environment. Appledore is a lovely village. There are so many things to do nearby in Rye, Tenterden and on the coast. A real rural treat. There are some nice walks in the vicinity - especially along the Military Canal, all the way to Hythe. Walking in some weathers offers some challenges to a tea room! Summed up in two words....muddy boots! For hygiene and safety reasons we are obliged to ask that walkers with muddy boots either take them off, use the shoe covers provided or in good-ish weather, sit outside. Please help us by being considerate. Anyway, that's all for now. We look forward to seeing you soon. We've put the kettle on! |
